Aerial Acrobatics

Friday 9th April

The intruder peregrine has once again been causing a stir in Cann Quarry. It was sighted a total of 4 times by the watchers on Tuesday and was back again on Wednesday. Our birds haveĀ adoptedĀ various well known peregrine methods to deal with an unwelcome visitor: ignore it and it will go away, make a racket to make your feelings loud and clear or chase it off your property. When none of the above succeed, chase it round and round and up and down the quarry until it well and truly gets the message, being sure to give the watchers on the viaduct chance to admire your fantastic flying skills. And this is what our peregrines did on Wednesday. Entertaining those lucky watchers with a spectacular acrobatic display for over 15 minutes.

In other peregrine news, both male and female continue to take turns in sitting on the nest. The male has been treating his female well by bringing in prey for her. The birds can still be seen mating occasionally.

Meanwhile the kestrels have again been seen mating and visiting their previous nest site.
