Tuesday 4th May
We can all breathe a huge sigh of relief (at least for now!) as the peregrines now really do have chicks. Several of the watchers and some lucky visitors have been able to see two chicks being fed in the nest. We believe one may have hatched on Saturday and the other on Sunday. For now we have just seen the two, but for the nest few days we will be carefully watching to see if any more white fluffy heads appear over the top of the nest.
As you may have guessed the chicks are very small and only give us glimpses of them when they are fed by the parents. However, it shouldn’t be too long before all the chicks can be clearly seen in the nest from the viaduct. Over the next six weeks or so, we will be privileged spectators of the chicks growth and development as they evolve from white balls of fluff into beautiful young peregrines. The parents will be working their socks off to bring in prey to meet the demands of their hungry chicks and will become even more territorial, protecting their patch from any unwelcome visitors.
