The Peregrine Falcon has for a number of years been nesting in Cann Quarry, an old slate quarry situated within The National Trust property of Plym Bridge Woods. The falcons, during this time have attracted a lot of public interest some of it to their detriment. Cann Quarry is situated on the east bank of the river Plym in a deep wooded valley about half a mile upstream from Plym Bridge, the quarry and surrounding area is owned by The National Trust. The local warden (Gus Fergusson) has spent considerable time and effort to ensure that these spectacular birds are allowed to live and breed unmolested. Peregrine Falcons are protected by law under Schedule 1 of the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. For more detailed information on how this project came into existence read the National Trust Peregrine Watch Report 2003 - Plymbridge Woods. Click here to read the previous report of 2002. |
